The former Cyclorama building will retain its façade, but the interior will be completely renovated to serve as an event space called Savanna Hall. This one-of-a-kind space will treat guests to an overlook of the new elephant exhibit area.

The African Savanna renovation/expansion includes roughly seven acres of pedestrian walkways, site walls, and landscaping. There are three different types of site walls being installed throughout the site: modular block wall, cast-in-place concrete walls, and artistic exhibit walls in the Savanna exhibits. There is also a large number of new trees and bushes, as well as protection of existing trees that the Zoo wants to save. All of these site items are intricately tied into the pedestrian walkways and huts to make sure visitors are getting the full African Savanna experience.

The project is an Earthcraft light commercial development and is designed to provide several city offices, a multipurpose City Council Chamber, and an additional 2,424 square feet of shell space for future growth. In addition, the new City Hall’s 30,000 square feet of green space will be the focal point for public gatherings and recreation.

City officials anticipate that, as an Earthcraft light commercial development, the project will serve as an energy efficient model for future construction in the City of East Point. Earthcraft is a green building certification program that serves the southeastern United States, promoting energy and water efficiency, building durability, and occupant health, and productivity.

The new 25,000 square-foot, two-story steel structure building is an arts- and innovation-centered hub for youth, helping to enrich the lives of more than 200 kids and teens each day.

The Club, called TIES for short (an acronym of The Innovation and Expression Studio) will offer spaces for visual, performing, and culinary arts. The Club includes a pre-engineered gymnasium and dance studio, dining area, culinary arts kitchen, 2D/3D arts studio with a kiln, gallery and maker spaces, offices, a loft area with a small cafe, and lab spaces for design, tech, music production, and film and video.

The exterior consists of corrugated metal panels, brick veneer, insulated metal panels, and aluminum composite panels. The structure features standing seam metal roofing with a modified bitumen roofing system. Site work includes a new storm damage drainage system, detention pond, 49-space parking lot, ornamental fencing, concrete sidewalks, and a planned culinary garden.
